4 Frequently Asked Questions about "Power Base Station Project Data List"

What is a Power Plant Database?

Interactive Power Plant database providing data for each power generation by country or energy centre location through an intuitive online interface. Plants under construction, plants capacity development (MW), plant energy type, etc...

How is the Global Power Plant Database built?

The Global Power Plant Database is built in several steps. The first step involves gathering and processing country-level data. In some cases, these data are read automatically from offical government websites; the code to implement this is in the build_databases directory. In other cases we gather country-level data manually.

How many power plants are there?

The database covers approximately 30,000 power plants from 164 countries and includes thermal plants (e.g. coal, gas, oil, nuclear, biomass, waste, geothermal) and renewables (e.g. hydro, wind, solar). Each power plant is geolocated and entries contain information on plant capacity, generation, ownership, and fuel type.

What is a power database?

The database provides a clear view of upcoming projects, while offering an accurate, up-to-date picture of power capacity additions year after year across 127 countries, broken down by fuel, technology, and company. Country dashboard: main power data for any of 127 countries.
